Heavy Vehicle Speeding Reform

The new heavy vehicle speeding compliance laws, being introduced in Victorian in November 09, introduce "chain of responsibility" obligations on parties in the supply chain to take positive steps to ensure that heavy vehicle drivers do not drive in excess of any speed limit that applies to the vehicle.

The requirements for drivers of heavy vehicles to obey speed limits are not impacted by these new CoR laws, and penalities still apply to drivers for failing to comply, including fines, demerit points, licence cancellation and disqualification from driving.  However, the new laws do increase the obligations on all other parties in the chain, including transport operators, consignees, consignors, and the like, to take reasonable steps to ensure speed limit compliance.  This includes ensuring that drivers' schedules, or any contracts related to the transport task, do not require the driver to exceed speed limits.

You are encouraged to attend the VicRoads' Information Sessions scheduled for Melbourne locations and in Victorian regional centres.  Click here to get registration form or register on-line at: www.speedingreform.com.au
